When people immigrate to America, they are very proud of their culture and they follow their traditions very closely; frequently they feel forced to assimilate. However, many children of immigrants are initially torn between both cultures. Being so exposed to the Amerian culture, they do not feel forced to assimilate and as they grow older, they simply begin to consider themselves American. This body of work, “2nd Generation,” explores the liberal side of a second-generation born American of South Asian descent, Shani Banerjee.
